The Canasta Group has 8 regular players, and has been running for over two and a half years.  Canasta is a card game originally from South America and is part of the Rummy family of games.

It is a tactical game in which you are playing your own hand whilst being aware of other players' moves (particularly the ones either side of you).  It's a game full of twists and turns, (and a little bit of luck), and is never the same twice, so it keeps us on our toes!
Points are accumulated and carried over each week until a player reachesa set score, or more, at which point they are declared the winner of that game and play starts again.  It usually takes 2 or 3 weeks to complete each game.Scores are recorded over the year to see who has achieved the highest number of points in one game; won the most games; and achieved the highest overall score.

Initially there is a lot to learn, so I provide each new member with a guide when they join, and I am happy to teach members who are not familiar with Canasta.

We are a competitive but friendly bunch who always play with good humour, and we have a good laugh and a natter during the morning.  Tea or Coffee and a biscuit are provided.

Members wishing to join this group may have to go onto a waiting list.
